Hard Work

My doorstep led me to a waterfall

Of bright and triumphant sound

That laughed and tumbled all the way

To a bridge I think I remember from my childhood

It might be a bridge from another time

I’ve seen a lot of bridges

And crossed a lot less

I’ve never laughed memorably

But that’s normal I think we all can

Rationalize

Driving is like walking towards the

Warmly lit window on the

fourth floor

And imagining you’ll never get there

And if you imagine hard enough

You’ll just keep walking in the same place

And never get any farther or closer

And it’s all

Like driving
